Olumuyiwa Adu said the report claiming he spent N126m in the election, was contrived to make him look as if he flaunted INEC’s rule

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Bye-election in Akure Federal Constituency, Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu, has condemned reports making the rounds

that he spent a whooping N126 million on the election which he lost to his challenger, Mayokun Lawson Alade of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Olumuyiwa Adu who spoke officially through his official media consultant, Mr. Julius Alabi, said that the report was to make him look as if he was flaunting INEC’s rule which stipulates the cap in the amount that must be spent by candidates and political parties on certain elections.

According to Olumuyiwa Adu, a law-abiding citizen must not go against the law of his country.

He, however, noted that a report which was posted on the social media that he doled out a certain amount of money for logistics did not emanate from him or his Campaign Council.

He said the right man who can speak on the election expenses is the Director-General of the Olumuyiwa Adu Campaign Council, Comrade Gbenga Jegede.

He added that any report regarding the election expenses that does not come from his Campaign Director-General should be dismissed.

Adu’s media consultant, Julius Alabi, while speaking with newsmen in Akure said that it was wrong for any Online Journal to publish such tissue of lies that the candidate said he spent N126m on the election when he didn’t say so.

“Truly, we have a functional media team but the statement which said the candidate doled some certain amount of money for logistics wasn’t from the candidate or his Campaign Council.

“We expect the journal to contact the DG of the Campaign Council to inquire the truth before going ahead to publish the report.

“We however believe that the said online report was the handiwork of our enemies to distract us in the forthcoming general elections in which Barrister Olumuyiwa Adu will be participating prominently.

“Barrister Adu is a lawyer and will never do anything to bring the law of our land on what a Candidate should spend on his election to disrepute. He didn’t spend N126m on election logistics and he didn’t issue any official statement to confirm such. The statement was not authorized by him,” the statement reads.
