Okowa urges Nigerians to imbibe attitude of giving

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa

Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on Nigerians to imbibe the attitude of giving to the needy in the society without looking at immediate benefits.

The governor made the call Wednesday night at the public presentation of 05 Initiative, a non-governmental organisation which is the pet project of the First Lady of Delta State, Dame Edith Okowa. The event coincided with the 55th birthday of Dame Okowa.

According to the Governor Okowa, “I did not know that the 05 Initiative has gone far in touching the lives of people. I will congratulate my wife for these humanitarian activities. I congratulate her too on her 55th birthday.”

“Of a truth, if you acquire all the property, the ornamentals, at a stage in one’s life, they don’t mean anything any more, there is nothing we can gain more than putting smiles on the faces of the people,” the governor said, asserting, “there is no help you can give without getting commensurate benefits especially when you give to those who are not in positions to help you.”

He reiterated, “I want to urge every one of you to find a way to touch the life of someone positively; as it concerns sickle cell disorder, we need to step up the advocacy campaign so that people will know that those with the disorder are not ‘Ogbanje’ or people possessed with evil spirit.”

Senator Okowa urged Nigerians, especially, Deltans to make contributions towards the 05 Initiatives achieving its set goals.
