Okorocha bans Keke in Owerri

Imo State governnent has banned the commercial tricycle (Keke) operators from operating in Owerri, the state capital, with effect from Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

The Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, also said that only taxis would  operate in Owerri as part of his

urban renewal pursuit.

The governor disclosed this to the Keke Operators in Owerri on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.

He disclosed that the state government has already provided about 2,000 pieces of Passat Wagon cars, which he said, had been shared to the Keke Operators on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 to enable them comply with the directive.

According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemodo, the balloting was conducted at the Hero’s Square for the beneficiaries to emerge.

He further stated that the second batch beneficiaries would get theirs in October while the third batch would have theirs in December 2017, adding that keke operators would no longer be expected to operate along the major roads of Douglas, Wetheral, Bank Road, Orlu Road and other designated roads.
