Moved by the deplorable state of the Aguleri/Enugu-Out road in Anambra West Local Government area of Anambra state, candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in the November 6 Anambra governorship election, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, has promised to list the road among projects that would be completed within his first 100 days in office.
Speaking when protesting youths of the area presented him with a recorded video of the state of the road to their community, Okonkwo, who had decried the state of infrastructure in most parts of Anambra North Senatorial district, said the story of Aguleri/Enugu-Out road was not lost on him.
He stated that the neglect of roads in the area is a clear demonstration of the failure of the APGA administration in the state.
According to him. Anambra West and Anambra East local government areas of the northern senatorial district are naturally gifted with water bodies that would make their transformation into tourist destinations a priority of his administration.
He said that already, a team of experts has been commissioned to redraw the map for the development of communities in both local government areas into new urban cities as captured in the 10-Point Agenda of his manifesto.
Urging people of the areas to turn out enmasse and vote for ZLP in the forthcoming election, Okonkwo stated that youths of Anambra north deserve more than roads.
“I have said it before and will not hesitate to repeat it. Any community that is blessed with the sort of body of water that Anambra East and Anambra West is blessed with, are communities sitting on goldmines. What it takes is simply leadership policy and vision to transform such communities into tourist destinations. That was how Macau in China came to be. That was also how Venice in Italy came to be.
“I see the same thing happening in Anambra East and Anambra West local government areas. Already, these are captured in our 10-Point agenda and we are only waiting to be empowered by your votes to begin the transformative efforts that will change the narrative.
“Youths in Anambra north deserve much more than just good roads. They deserve electricity, water, hospitals, good schools and skills development centers. They deserve economic incubators that will help them harness their potentials to become self-reliant and happy.
“I am certain in my promise that the Aguleri/Enugu-Otu road will be fixed within our first 100 days in office. So, the youths should be positive and remain peaceful and hopeful because help is on the way”, Okonkwo said.
