Okonjo-Iweala urges S’Eagles to beat South Africa, qualify for final

Okonjo-Iweala in a now-viral social media message to Jose Peseiro’s men, charged them saying “Let’s get it done.”

Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has joined a growing list of prominent Nigerians wishing the Super Eagles well in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash against South Africa on Wednesday. 

The former Nigeria’s Finance Minister, took to her X page, formerly Twitter, to urge the Super Eagles to ensure they get the job done against the Bafana Bafana and qualify for the AFCON finals.

Okonjo-Iweala, in the now-viral tweet also wished Jose Peseiro’s men the best of luck against their opponent.

Speaking via her social media page, she tweeted: “Wishing our very own Super Eagles the best of luck tomorrow!! Let’s get it done.”

Nigeria edged past Angola in the quarter-final stage of the 2023 AFCON after beating harsh rivals, Cameroon 2-0 in the last 16 to reach the tournament’s semi-finals.

Similarly, their opponent, South Africa, eliminated one of the tournament’s favourites, Morocco in the Rounds of 16, before defeating Cape Verde.2-1 via penalty shootout to book their place in the last 4.

The kick-off time for Nigeria vs South Africa is 6 pm.
