Former Paris St Germain midfielder Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha feels Nigeria have moved closer to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar following their 0-0 draw against The Black Stars of Ghana on Friday.
Nigeria and Ghana were unable to breach each other’s defence in the first-leg tie of the World Cup qualifier at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi yesterday.
The Super Eagles will now host their Ghanaian counterpart in the reverse fixture at the MKO National Stadium, Abuja, on Tuesday.
But Okocha feels the two teams were cautious in their approach to the game because none of them wanted to make a mistake that could cost them the first leg.

He, however, believes with the draw, the Super Eagles have put themselves in pole position to get the ticket with their mature display against Ghana and praised the players.
Okocha made the statement while analysing the match on SuperSports.
“We could not separate both teams because nobody wanted to lose the game.
“We must give credit to the players considering the fact that they have given themselves a good chance of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup,” Okocha said.
