Indigenes of Oke-Agbe Akoko in Akoko-North West Local Government Area of Ondo State have pleaded for the State Government’s support towards ensuring quality health care delivery in the community.
The Indigenes under the aegis of Egbe-Omo Oke-Agbe Akoko, Akure branch made the call during a visit to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Pharmacist (Mrs.) Folukemi Aladenola in her office in Akure, the state capital.
The Leader of the delegation and Chairman, Governing Council, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko(AAUA), Dr Tunji Abayomi while speaking noted that the indigenes of the community who are peculiar for consistently advancing the community’s development are seeking government’s intervention in the community’s health sector.
Abayomi said the indigenes of the community-based in the diaspora in collaboration with those at home have built a hospital in the community through communal efforts and requires the government’s assistance in terms of provision of necessary facilities and subsequent hand over to the government.
He added that the development informed the interface with the state government on how to lift up the health sector in Oke-Agbe towards ensuring that quality health care services are provided to the people of the community.
Earlier in his address, the President of Egbe-Omo Oke-Agbe, Akure branch, Mr Matthew Imoru said the community used to have the Rufus Giwa Memorial Hospital adding however that the facility has now become obsolete.
Imoru noted that the indigenes of the community are now desirous that the Ondo State Government takes over the new facility built through communal efforts and elevate it to the status of a general hospital.
Responding, Aladenola appreciated the efforts of all stakeholders in the community describing such efforts as community participation in the health sector.
The Permanent Secretary who also described the achievements of the indigenes of Oke-Agbe as complementary to the efforts of the state government at providing quality health care services to the people of the state expressed the government’s delight at them and assured the delegation of the government’s support.
While noting that there is a department in the Ministry of Health specifically saddled with the responsibility, she assured that the Ministry will visit the health facility next week to carry out its assessment.
