The debate about the best midfielder English football has ever produced will continue to go on as long as the game is played.

A lot of names come to mind when discussing the topic, but the rivalry between Gerrard and former Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard, makes it even more interesting.

Gerrard was in Liverpool for most of his productive life as a footballer but did not lift the Premier League title with the Reds.

He, however, captured a Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, and three League Cups with the club.

He became Rangers’ manager in 2018 and lifted the Scottish Premiership title with the Gers last season before he was appointed the head coach of Aston Villa.

Lampard on the other hand spent 13 awesome years at Chelsea after leaving West Ham.

He won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, a Europa League, four FA Cups, and two League Cups with Chelsea.

He started his coaching career with Derby County and was in charge of his former Chelsea for 18 months before he was sacked and replaced by Thomas Tuchel, he has now been linked to Norwich City.

Jamie O’Hara, who played against both Gerrard and Lampard, has waded into the debate of who is the better midfielder between the two.

He said though the two players are gifted, Gerrald has a slight edge over Lampard.

The former Tottenham man told talkSPORT: “You couldn’t get near the guy. He was a joke!

“Let’s get one thing straight right now. Gerrard was on another level as a player.

“Gerrard was unbelievable. You couldn’t get near the guy. He was a joke, how good he was.

“He had everything. Pace, could score, tackle, harder than you, fitter than you, more leadership, dragged the team on his own.

“Lampard was brilliant but he was a goalscorer, he was a goalscorer. He’d get in the box. He was almost like a number 10.

“But as an all-around player, Gerrard was the best player by a million miles I ever played against.

“It’s not a debate. Not a debate.”, O’Hara  said.
