Ohanaeze youths urge Igbo elders to intervene in Abia crisis

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youths Council has called on Igbo elders to intervene in the political crisis in Abia State, saying that they should not keep quiet on issues like that.

The Council also attacked the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for his stand against restructuring of Nigeria and insisted that only restructuring can address the numerous challenges facing Nigeria.

The group in a statement signed by Mazi Alex Okemiri, chairman of all the State Chairmen of the Youth council, urged Igbo leaders not to keep quiet in the face of the political logjam in Abia State.

According to the the group, Igbo culture requires elders not to keep quiet when things are getting out of hand, hence the need for them to declare their position with a view to finding a solution to it.

The group also lambasted the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo for his stand against the call for the restructuring of Nigeria.

According to them, it is unfortunate that gwhen some of our elites get into power they are carried away by officialdom to the detriment of the future of their peopleo.

The group insisted that only restructuring of Nigeria can address the numerous challenges facing it and not just the fight against corruption.

The OYC reiterated its call for the empowerment of Igbo Youths who are the least empowered in the country which it noted was responsible for the agitation for Biafra.

The group also commended the Imo state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for hosting the Igbo unity rally which holds in Owerri today andtomorrow and urged all Igbo Governors to be at the rally to discuss the good of Ndigbo.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, yesterday commenced the demolition of Orji Mechanic Village in Owerri North local council area of the state.

Okorocha, who was personally supervising the demolition, was said to be reacting angrily to the protest by scores of artisans, which emasculated economic activities in Owerri, for several hours.

Although the Governor appeared not to be in the mood to talk to any journalist as the demolition progressed, the aggrieved artisans claimed that no fewer than 20 of their members have been arrested by the police.
