Ogunlewe rues missing medal in Glasgow

One of the country’s up-and-coming athletes, Adeseye Ogunlewe, is ruing missing a medal at the just concluded 20th edition of the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland.

The 22-year-old son of former Minister of Works and two-time senator was one of Nigeria’s American athletes that represented Team Nigeria at the Games, but failed to win a medal.

 

He said: “I felt bad that I could not win a medal despite all my efforts to do the country proud at the Games.

 

“Now that Glasgow 2014 has ended, I want to look forward to future challenges and, God’s willing, win a medal for my dear country, Nigeria.

 

“After winning several laurels in my school days in the United States and in London, I know my time will come to win laurels for Nigeria.

 

“Nigeria is my country and I am ready to work hard and make the country proud by excelling in my career and sporting activities.”

 

‘Seye Boy’, as he is fondly called by his admirers and family members, was ranked 57th in the men’s 100m at the end of Glasgow 2014 with a time of 10.23secs behind fellow Nigerians, Mark Jelks (ranked 30 with a time of 10.13secs) and Ogho-Oghene Egwero (ranked 45 with a time of 10.18secs).

 

He was, however, ahead of Mozavous Edwards ranked 64 with a time of 10.25secs; Obinna Metu ranked 71 with a time of 10.28secs; Patrick Chinedu ranked 74 with a time of 10.29secs and Divine Oduduru ranked 81 with a time of 10.30secs.
