Ogun to host to next National Sports Festival

Ogun state has won the bid to host the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival.

The gateway state was announced as the host city scheduled for the fiesta in 2024.

Oyo state has however been placed on standby to host incase the main host will not be ready in the next one year.

The announcement was made in Asaba, Delta state when the curtain was drawn on the 21st edition.

Ogun will be hosting for the second time after hosting in 2006.

Declaring the Festival closed, Youth and Sports Development Minister, Sunday Dare appreciated all the contingents.

The Minister also congratulated host, Delta state for the successful defence of the Festival title and urged other states to give Delta a hot chase in two years time in Ogun state.

He wished all contingents safe trip back home as he hopes to see them in Ogun 2024.

Delta won a total of 648 medals made up of 320 gold, 200 silver and 128 bronze to win for a record extending 10th time while Bayelsa came second with 337 medals (132 gold, 115 silver and 90 bronze medals).

Edo state, host of the 20th edition last year dropped to third with 78 gold, 94 silver and 167 bronze medals.

Oyo state came fourth with 163 medals made up of 50 gold, 51 silver and 62 bronze ahead of Lagos with 172 medals (41 gold,57 silver and 74 bronze medals).

2011 winners, Rivers state placed sixth (35 gold, 57 silver and 117 bronze medals) while 2024 host, Ogun came in eighth with 70 medals, behind Kano which placed seventh 76 medals
