Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Hakeem Odumosu has refuted reports that President Bola Tinubu has appointed him as a replacement for the embattled Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa.
Several news outlets on Tuesday, June 20, reported that Odumosu was picked as the new EFCC Chairman and that his appointment is awaiting confirmation by the Senate.
Prior to this development, President Tinubu had suspended the former chairman of the anti-corruption agency for misconduct.
Bawa was subsequently invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning.

However, while reacting to the news of his new appointment as the head of the financial crime agency, Odumosu in a statement on Wednesday denied it, saying he is unaware of such an appointment.
The former police boss went on to say he has received several calls and messages regarding the development and described the report as fake news, urging Nigerians to disregard it.
He said: ”Good Morning, everyone, I have been inundated with so many calls and messages between yesterday and today on a purported “EFCC Appointment”. I just want to use this opportunity to debunk this information and say it’s totally untrue.
“This information must have emanated from mischief makers and should be totally disregarded,” he said.
