The Coalition of Yoruba Interest Groups (CYIG) under the joint effort of Yoruba Nation Global Directorate has described the death of Comrade Yinka Odumakin as shocking and a big loss to the Yoruba Nation.
A statement issued by the group through its spokesman, Otunba Demola Edward in Akure yesterday said late Odumakin was a fearless and courageous human rights activist, a Yoruba man to the core who defended the cause of the southwest to the last.
“It was shocking to hear the passing of Comrade Yinka Odumakin, spokesman of Afenifere who fought doggedly to defend the defendless. He was a great man indeed”, the group said.
According to Edward, Yoruba Nation will miss him. He was an outspoken leader in the struggle for the masses and a patriotic citizen of Yoruba Nation.
“He was a freedom fighter known for his commitment to Afenifere and the Yoruba cause, we Yoruba people will greatly miss him. We are saddened that we lost him at this time we needed him most.
“He was a great warrior, one of the brightest Yoruba sons who feared nothing but stood for the truth and justice at all time”, the statement said.
“For Odumakin’s efforts and death not to be in vain, all Yoruba must work hard together more than ever before to emancipate the Yoruba Nation from the current contraction, which was the struggle the deceased committed most of his adult life to.
“We commiserate with his immediate family, especially his wife and children, the Afenifere, and indeed, the entire southwest. May his soul rest in peace”, it added.
