Obiora hails South East delegates, tasks President on national conference

The South East delegates to the national conference have been commended for their tenacity and the single-mindedness with which they have conducted themselves so far and pursued the interests of the geopolitical zone at the conference.

Obiora Okonkwo

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, while praising the delegates, pointed specifically “how the delegates worked to ensure that the desire of the South East zone to get another state from the conference was achieved.”

While commending the delegates, Okonkwo, who is the Political and Economic Adviser to the Archbishop of Onitsha & Metropolitan of Onitsha Ecclesiastical Province, and a former member of the Board Member of the National Metallurgical Development Centre, Jos, hailed the vision of President Goodluck Jonathan in setting up the conference as he reminded him that “the recommendations will come to nothing if not implemented.”

According to Okonkwo, “the importance and historic significance of this achievement will be better appreciated when put in perspective with the various attempts in the past to get another state for the zone and amend the injustice the zone continues to suffer as the only zone with five states.”

He therefore appealed to the president to ensure that the recommendations of the conference, “especially the additional state for the South East,” were not swept aside.

He added: “We have had the experience where the recommendations of a similar conference were thrown away at the end of the day. It will be a disaster if the same fate is visited on the outcome of this conference.
