The flag bearer of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, was part of the dignitaries who attended the 70th annual convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), at the Redemption City.

While being introduced to the congregation at the convention, the announcer noted the former Anambra State governor was coming to the prayer ground for the first time.  

He said, “We welcome to the Redemption Camp for the first time Mr. Peter Obi.”

His introduction caused a loud cheer and applause from participants of the event, which is tagged ‘Perfect Jubilee’.

Peter Obi wasn’t the only notable politician at the convention, others such as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel and the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who is represented by his wife, were also introduced.  

The Presiding Bishop of the Sword of the Spirit Ministries and President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Wale Oke and the National Superintendent of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria and National Treasurer of the PFN, Reverend Sam Aboyeji, we’re also mentioned. 

Meanwhile, the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, recently renamed the popular prayer ground of the worship centre along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

According to the clergyman, the camp, which is a sprawling settlement of halls and residences of the faithful, will now be known as Redemption City.

He made the announcement at the end of the Church Ministers’ Conference, while also intimating the members of the church, that pastors who have reached the age of 70 years will be retiring.
