“Under Labour Party, Nigeria will not be the same again. Labour Party is committed to turning around Nigeria. We are committed to building a better Nigeria,” Peter Obi has again pledged, this time in his first major campaign in the South East.
Obi repeated the promise at the launch of Alex Otti’s latest quest to become Abia Governor on the platform of the LP after previous failed attempts under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The campaign took off at Ngwa High School field in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia, which provided Obi with vivid illustrations of how deep Nigeria has sunk.
Obi, presidential candidate of the LP, said his mission is to ensure a just and secure nation, and revive industries ran aground under previous administrations.
“Aba is a great town. When I came to Aba today, I went around Aba by air …. All the factories in Aba have closed down,” he lamented, per reporting by The Nation.
“All the businesses in Aba and other parts of Nigeria have closed down because the government of Nigeria failed to show interest in reviving ailing industries. All these will be changed by the Labour Party.
“Today, nobody’s secure in Nigeria. Our commitment is to secure Nigeria. We will secure and unite Nigeria. [Travelling between] Aba and Port Harcourt under our government will [take] 30 minutes.
“Under our government, Aba will bounce back. Aba will have 24-hour power supply. We are not here to make fake or false promises. We are telling you what to do, hold us accountable and responsible.”

Era of deception gone for good, says Baba-Ahmed
A massive crowd of Obedients thronged the venue to welcome Obi and Margaret his wife and running mate Yusuf Dati Baba-Ahmed, per reporting by ThisDay.
LP National Chairman Julius Abure and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC) were also in attendance.
Baba-Ahmed stressed the era of deception by the ruling class is gone for good, because “our eyes don open and our minds don clear.”.
What Nigeria needs now is a leader with “credibility, character and capacity” all of which Obi embodies, he added.
Otti promises to rescue Abia
Otti said he would rescue Abia from those who have held it back for the past 23 years, promising he would create jobs and pay arrears of salaries, gratuities, and pensions.
He lamented impassible roads in the state and said his mission to rebuild would start as soon as he is sworn in as Governor, if elected.
“This gathering is a declaration of intent to rescue Abia from bad governance that has held it down for decades,” he said, adding it is time for Abians to tell “the evil cabal that enough is enough.”
He decried the poor condition of Abia which has been ruled by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999, insisting bad governance has driven the people to despondency.
“If we were dissatisfied in 2015, we should be outraged now [and] we are saying, enough is enough.”
