Obi and seven other biggest shocks, some of them wrought by Atiku

Peter Obi carried Lagos in the presidential election, torpedoed the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria’s richest and most populous state, and humbled its former Governor, Bola Tinubu, even as he went on to win Aso Rock.
That is just one of the eight biggest shocks in the ballot, although opposition parties insist the results were rigged by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu announced at 4.10am on Wednesday that Tinubu got 8,794,726 votes, Atiku Abubakar (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) 6,984,520 votes, Peter Obi (Labour Party, LP) 6,101,533 and Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP) 1,496,687.

Obi clears Aso Rock polling units
Obi won nine polling units in and around the Presidential Villa in Abuja with a total 499 votes. Tinubu came second with 184 and Atiku third with 142.
Obi grabs Tinubu’s council, state
Obi clinched Ikeja council where Tinubu voted and also defeated him across the state Tinubu governed for eight years, from 1999 to 2007.
Tinubu carried 11 of the 20 councils, Obi won 9.
But Obi received 582,454 votes, Tinubu (572, 606), and Atiku (75,750).

Obi wins Nasarawa
Before the polls, Obi’s chances in the North were very slim or even written off. Yet he racked up considerable votes in Kaduna and won outright in both Plateau and Nasarawa.
He scored 191,361 votes in Nasarawa, trailed by Tinubu (172,922), and Atiku (147,093)
Obi clinches Okowa’s Delta
Many thought Obi would have a good outing in the South South, with the exception of Delta because Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the running mate of Atiku.
But Deltans gave Obi 341,866 votes, Atiku (161,600), and Tinubu (90,183).
Atiku beats Tinubu in Katsina
Atiku won Katsina, Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, with 489,045 votes to edge out Tinubu (482,283), who belongs to the same APC as the President.
It is also a big blow to Governor Bello Masari, a member of the APC known to be very influential in the state.
Adamu, APC Chair, loses polling unit to Obi
APC National Chairman Abdullahi Adamu lost his polling unit in Nasarawa to Obi, who received 132 votes, against 85 for Tinubu.
El-Rufai loses council and state
Kaduna Governor Nasir el-Rufai failed to deliver both his council and state to the APC. He lost Zaria council where he and APC governorship candidate Uba Sani hail from.
Atiku won with 62,260 votes in the council, Tinubu (41,432), Kwankwaso (8,729), and Obi (3,634).
Overall, Atiku carried Kaduna with 554,360 votes, Tinubu (399,293), and Obi (294,494). Atiku won 14 councils, Obi (seven), Tinubu (two).
Tinubu beats Obi, Atiku in Rivers
Many expected Obi to win Rivers as he did in most of the South South and South East.
But Tinubu sprang a surprise by winning the state with 231,591 votes, followed by Obi 175,071 votes, and Atiku 88,468.
