Obaseki said the striker with the feat has put Edo State and Nigeria on the global map for good

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has congratulated Edo State-born Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen after becoming the first African player to bag the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Footballer of the Year Award.
The Super Eagles striker on Monday night was named as the winner of the prize following his stellar showing with Neopolitans last season.
He joins the likes of Rafael Leao, Gianluigi Buffon, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Prilo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who won the award in the past.

Speaking on the feat via a statement made available to TheNiche, Obaseki celebrated the exploits of the Super Eagles striker, noting that he has continued to make Edo and Nigeria proud with his accomplishments, putting the State and Country on the global map for good.
The governor said, “I heartily congratulate our own superstar, Victor Osimhen for bagging the Italian Footballers’ Association (AIC) Footballer of the Year Award, becoming the first African to clinch the prestigious award.
“Osimhen has continued to display the indefatigable Edo spirit of excellence and hard work with his extraordinary brilliance, agility, resilience and outstanding performance on the pitch, solidifying his position as one of the best strikers in the world.
