NSSF President heads NOC’s Education Committee

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has appointed the President of Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF), Ibrahim Muhammad, as head of its Education Committee, the Federation said on Thursday.

In a statement in Abuja, the NSSF quoted the NOC President, Habu Gumel, as saying the committee would create platforms which would support the promotion of Olympic education ideals.

 

 

Gumel added that Muhammad’s appointment, as well as the committee’s creation and duties, are in line with the goals of the Olympic Movement.

 

 

“Gumel further explained that the committee’s responsibilities will include exercising oversight functions and encouraging publication of books and materials on Olympism and Nigerian sports history,’’ the statement said.

 

 

It disclosed that Gumel also directed the committee to liaise with the NOC secretariat on the planning and implementation of its programmes and activities.

 

 

The statement added that the NOC president charged the committee to promote the goals of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Olympic values education programme.

 

 

It said such a programme would be through the dissemination of Olympic education in schools and the biennial sports and literature competitions.

 

 

The statement listed other members of the committee to include Prof. Clement Fasan, Yusuf Dauda, Dr. Jude Amadi, Dr. Steven Hamaifito, Prof. P.B. Ikulayo and Dr. Toyin Aluko.

 

 

It said the rest are Jonathan Dyagas, Peter Aluko, Victoria Rowland and Oluwakemi Obidahunsi.
