By Amos Odeh,Yenagoa .

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps says a total of 1000 officers had been deployed to cover the 2019 general elections in Bayelsa  state to ensure not only hitch free, but fair and credible elections.

” We also play complimentary roles with other security agencies ” the NSCDC said.

Commandant Pedro Idiba of the Ondo State Command of the NSDC stated this while speaking to journalists after inspecting the guard of honour at the command’s Headquarters in Yenagoa.

According to him all the officers and men of the command had been briefed and he was in the state to reiterate the Riot Acts handed over to all commands by the Commandant General of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

They have been briefed on the rules and regulations concerning the general elections.

“All officers are expected to abide by the laws , they need to  be properly tagged and dressed and maintain their professional integrity, this is not their first assignment of this nature, I am here to coordinate them and other sister security agencies, ” he said.

He disclosed that all the men and officers had been adequately  motivated with enough allowances and that they should avoid compromise and influence by politicians.

“Their duties is to work in synergy with other security agencies to ensure they protect life and security of politicians, voters and sensitive  voting materials at the polling booths and collation Centres,” he said.

He also said any officer found wanting will be severely  dealt with.

“Our men working with politicians have been withdrawn to avoid them aiding and abetting electoral fraud and we want to ensure that no thuggery and electoral violence will  be entertained.”
