Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has disbursed N3.8 million to the next of kin of the 10 officers of the Niger State command who died in active service in the last four years.

Niger State Commandant, Mr. Philip Ayuba, disclosed this to newsmen at the Command’s state headquarters in Minna on Thursday.

He gave the names of the slain officers to include Emeka Nwalozie, Sani Koko, Simon Audu and Haruna Shehu.

Disbursing the funds to family members of the slain officers, the Commandant said, “My command is deeply touched by the death of the officers who died while carrying out their statutory duties in a dignified manner and we raised the money to help their families”.

He gave the names of other officers who lost their lives in their places of primary assignment across Niger state as Joshua Ali, Mohammed Yahaya, Kabiru Umar, Talatu Mohammed, Naomi Samuel and Asikele Yakubu.

“What we did is in line with the promise made by the Commandant General of the NSDSC, Abdullahi Gana, that, wives and children of those who lost their lives on the line of duty will be recruited if they have the necessary qualifications and not above required age limit”.

The commandant, who described the late NSCDC officers as ‘men and women who were absolutely committed to their duties with no fear of contradictions’, prayed God to grant their souls eternal rest.

The commandant however lamented the insecurity in Niger State and appealed to the public to continue to provide information to security agencies with the intent of tracking down criminals.

He reminded all Nigerlites that issues of security should be everybody’s business.

His words: “Issues of security should not be left in the hands of security agencies alone but should be everybody’s business. Without security nothing can be achieved in our day-to-day businesses, so give us information on the hideouts of people with questionable characters.”    On behalf of other beneficiaries, Naomi Samuel’s mother thanked the NSCDC Commandant for the kind gesture, adding that ‘remembering the families of the slain officers with cash sums at this critical moment in their lives meant so much’.
