NSCDC battles COVID-19 with new testing equipment

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has received coronavirus (COVID-19) testing equipment (Polymerase chain reaction CPR machines) and personal protective equipment to fight the dreaded virus.

The Commandant General, NSCDC), Abdulahi Gana Mohammadu, received the equipment in his office on Friday December 18, 2020.

  The equipment, which were ordered by the NSCDC boss, would provide results within   a short time the samples arrive in the hospital’s Lab.

Recall that the NSCDC has a well-equipped hospital and laboratory equipment within its National Headquarters in Abuja which has been serving both staff and THE public in full capacity.

In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Ekunola Gbenga, the commandant general disclosed that the installation of the equipment was ongoing at the special laboratory of the Corps, stressing that kits would be distributed to health workers and staff accordingly.

The Gana also disclosed that the Corps would soon invite the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for accreditation of the facility for public use as a testing centre.

On the new equipment, Gana said: “It is not a coincidence that this equipment is coming on stream at this time when the Coronavirus is ravaging the world.

“Since we find ourselves in this situation, more effort will be made to support the government and general public as part of the national response plan.”
