NSC, Sports Ministry to probe Glass House fire

Plans have been conducted the National Sports Commission (NSC) and Ministry of Sports to investigate the fire outbreak at the headquarters of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on Wednesday, August 20.

Documents were destroyed by the fire and observers wonder whether the incident is linked with the leadership tussle between Aminu Maigari and Mike Umeh.

Questions being asked include: Why the fire incident now that the body is about to elect new officers? Why did it occur after impeached Maigari was reinstated as NFF President?

And why did the fire affect only the offices of the NNF president, secretary general, chief accountant, and other sections in the finance department?

Feelers from the NSC office in Abuja showed that Sports Minister, Tamuno Danagogo, who doubles as NSC Chairman, has directed NFF officials to furnish him with what transpired and what caused the fire outbreak at the Glass House.

Our source said Danagogo is not happy with the development, especially as NFF executive committee members held a meeting at the headquarters less than 24 hours before the inferno.

He “is seriously engrossed with the development and has asked us to look deep into what actually led to the fire incident and bring to book all those involved,” the source disclosed.

NFF’s spokesperson, Ademola Olajire, confirmed that the fire started on the third floor of the building.

Fire Service Assistant Controller, Eyo Ime, told journalists that the cause could not be determined immediately the fire was put out, even though faulty electrical cables were suspected.
