Today marks the arrival of youth teams from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at their designated centers for the zonal qualifiers, with the much-anticipated kick-off scheduled for tomorrow.
Pastor Emeka Inyama, Chairman of the NPFL Youth League Committee, revealed that the tournament’s commencement will be preceded by a screening exercise on January 31 to ensure thorough documentation of players.
The 20 NPFL clubs have been grouped regionally for preliminary qualifying matches across five centers. Lafia will accommodate clubs from the North Central, Kaduna for the Northwest and Northeast, Ekiti for the Southwest, Enugu for the Southeast, and Port Harcourt for the South-south clubs.
“We aim to establish a robust Youth League culture, which is integral to the future of elite leagues worldwide,” stated Inyama, emphasizing the importance of building a stronger NPFL.
Inyama commended NPFL Chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye and the Board members for their vision in establishing the Youth League and supporting the committee’s initiatives.
“It’s crucial to note that participation is mandatory for all 20 NPFL clubs, with serious repercussions for any club failing to comply,” emphasized Inyama, underscoring the significance of every club’s involvement in the league.
As the league season gears up to start, anticipation runs high for a vibrant and competitive youth football showcase across Nigeria.
