Rivers United were able to navigate upstream from the murky waters of relegation as they beat a determined Remo Stars 1-0 in a rescheduled league game. Bernard Ovoke scored the winner as Rivers United overcame Remo Stars on Wednesday in Port Harcourt.
The flying winger netted from close range in the 44th minute at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt to seal the win for the Pride of Rivers.
United endured a lethargic start to the game and were fortunate not to be behind in the 23rd minute when Abiodun Awoyemi headed wide from two yards after he was played by a delightful ball by Edozie Ewelike.
A minute later, Victor Mbaoma came close to scoring for the visitors again but he scoffed at his effort from 20 yards.
Those misses by the visitors proved decisive as Ovoke netted soon after to hand United maximum points which was enough to see them move up to 14th on the log.
Technical manager of Rivers United, Stanley Eguma expressed happiness with the victory in his post-match interview with, www.riversunitedfc.com.ng.
“This was an important victory. We are pleased to have gotten three points but the objective remains winning even more games to continue to improve on our position on the log,” he explained.
