NPFL MatchDay7 saw Rivers United staying atop league table after beating MFM FC at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Two wins on the road for Rivers United and Wikki Tourists were the talking points of some of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) MatchDay 7 fixtures played midweek with the others recording home wins.

With the league leaders, Remo Stars game against Abia Warriors holding Thursday, Rivers United now stay top after a comprehensive 3-1 win against MFM FC at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

In Benin, where Dakkada FC played their second home match away from Uyo, Wikki Tourist recorded their first win away from Bauchi. Abubakar Aliu’s 65th minute strike gave the visitors a compensation for their home defeat to Remo Stars last weekend

Rivers United were so dominant that they led 3-0 before the Olukoya Boys pulled one back through Tosin Olubobola as the Stanley Eguma wards were celebrating their third goal on the torch line.

Rivers United opened scoring in the 35th minute through Chijioke Akuneto, a former MFM player and the season’s leading marksman Kayode Ishaq increased the tally in added time of the first half as he followed through a rebound shot to double the lead. It was his sixth goal of the season. Uche Onwuansonya put the game to bed with third in the 82min.

In Jos, Plateau United continued their free scoring at home with a 3-2 victory over neighbours, Nasarawa United.

Haggai Katoh 7th minute strike for the home team was cancelled out in 38th minute as Uche Ihuarulem responded with a goal for the visitors.

Jesse Akila restored the lead through a headed goal five minutes after the interval and Mohammed Zilkifilu made it 3-1 seven minutes later. The visitors pulled a goal back through a penalty as Silas Nwankwo was fouled in the box by the goalkeeper. Tochukwu Michael dispatched the penalty for the match to end 3-2.

Sunshine Stars bagged maximum points after defeating visiting Gombe United 2-0 in Ijebu Ode. Promise Orji made the difference with an early strike. Bello Babatunde’s well taken free Kick in the 46th min completed the rout.

At the Moshood Abiola Stadium Abuja, Shooting Stars of Ibadan continued their poor run with a 2-0 loss to Niger Tornadoes. Goals in each half from Martins Usule and Munir Idris ensured that Tornadoes won the battle of newly promoted teams.

The game between Katsina United and Lobi Stars at the Mohammed Dikko Stadium ended goal less.

Remo Stars will take on Abia Warriors in Ikenne, Thursday while two other fixtures involving Enyimba and Akwa United and Heartland versus Rangers were rescheduled to later dates
