North-east APC demands Senate president or Speaker

The North-east chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made a strong case for the party to zone the position of Senate President to it. This is in spite of the fact that the party members from the South East are putting up demand for the same position, though from a very weak position as there is no Senator elected from the zone on the platform of the APC.

A statement signed yesterday in Abuja by the APC national Vice Chairman, North-east, Engr. Babachir David Lawal, also urged the voters at the region to massively vote for the APC at the governorship and state House of Assembly election scheduled for coming Saturday.

He said: “In recognition of this immense contribution to the party’s victory, I want to seize this opportunity to call on the APC National Leadership to cede either the Senate Presidency or Speaker of the House of Representatives to the region where we have an abundance of talent and imminently qualified candidates for these position. This will set the region on a course of accelerated development that it so desperately needs.

“But for us to reap the full benefits of an APC Government at the centre, we must also have APC in government in the six states in our zone. This will facilitate coordination and planning of development and infrastructure projects that will have to be embarked upon by both tiers of government. An opposition government in any of the states will destroy this synergy and put any prospect of our rehabilitation, reconstruction and reconciliation in jeopardy. Therefore I call on all registered voters in the region to massively come out and cast their votes for the APC on Saturday, 11th April 2015.”

The APC chieftain lamented that his party were massively rigged out in Taraba State, adding that “I wish to encourage our people there not to despair at all because we are confident of recovering our stollen mandates in due course. We are sure that with an APC government at the centre, the Nigerian judicial system will have no choice but to be just and transparent in the conduct of the affairs of justice. Therefore the people of Taraba State should not despair at all.”

He therefore congratulated the President-elect, General Mohammadu Buhari and the Vice-President-elect Pastor Yemi Osinbajo on their victory in the March 28, 2015 Presidential and National Assembly election.
