Nollywood star, Ejike Asiegbu, has been appointed Champion for the National Campaign of the State of the Union (SOTU) Project in Nigeria by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC).
In a letter signed by Auwal Rafsanjani and dated May 5, the actor’s appointment as ambassador of the body is part of moves aimed at mobilising “citizens’ participation in the entire governance process in pushing for accountability in governance”.
CISLAC in its commitment towards building a Nigeria where citizens’ are at the heart of governance and ensuring participation and increased inclusivity in the development, implementation and monitoring of laws and policies has in the last three years been implementing the SOTU project.
SOTU is a coalition of civil society organisations working across various government thematic areas on the African continent that advocate for the ratification, domestication and implementation of key African Union (AU) conventions and legal instruments.
The campaign will be launched on the May 14 in Abuja.
The Nollywood actor in a statement on Thursday said he was delighted to serve in the capacity of Champion for the National Campaign of the SOTU project in Nigeria which, according to him, is his own means of contributing to nation building as well as ensuring that peace reigns in Africa. He promised to be a good ambassador in the duration he would serve.
