Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has reassured that he has no plans to relocate the Ariara International Mmarket but rather working towards making it an all season market.
At a thanksgiving mass in his honour by the Catholic Diocese of Aba in conjunction with Aba Landlords Protection and Development Association (ALPADA), at the Christ the King Catholic (CKC) cathedral, Aba , the governor stated that efforts were on by his government to control flood in the market, warning that any structure that obstructs the exercise would be pulled down.
He disclosed that Setraco Nig Limited would commence contruction work at Faulks Road to check flooding, assuring that his administration will continue to rehabilitate roads in Aba and other parts of the state. The governor further disclosed that his government has completed 27 out of 65 roads currently undertaken by the government.
He said that he was working towards reabsorbing into the state civil service the outstanding staff disengaged by the government sometime ago, pointing out that his government has no room for discrimination as it is out to serve all.
He called for the support and prayers of the church and used the forum to donate N2 million to widows in the church to help offset their rents.
Earlier, the Diocesan Administrator, Rev Anthony Ajuonu, appreciated the governor’s effort at fixing decayed infrastructure which he said had been the bane of the city and expressed the hope that God will use him to liberate the people.
In his homily, Rev Fr. Chisom Nwankwo of St. Bernard’s Ndiegoro, said that love for another person is the secret that will bring liberation and thanked the governor for his favours to the Aba Catholic Church as well as pledged to continue praying for him.
