President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians not to go ahead with the protests over hardship in the country.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, revealed the president’s message to Nigerians while speaking with State House Correspondents after closed-door talks with Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

Tinubu also called on Nigerians to give his administration enough time to respond to their requests.

The minister said, “On the issue of the planned protest, Mr. President does not see any need for that. He asked them to shelve that plan and he has asked them to await government’s response to all their pleas.

“So, there is no need for strike. The young people out there should listen to the president and allow the president more time to see to the realisation of all the goodies he has for them.”

The message from President Tinubu come days after calls for nationwide protests from August 1-10 against the rising cost of living and the economic hardship.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Atiku Abubakar, has warned against any plan to suppress Nigerians from protesting against hunger.

Earlier, the Presidency alleged that the planned protest was being sponsored by supporters of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.

The Presidency also claimed without evidence that the plan was to topple the government of President Tinubu.
