The Niger State Police command has arrested no fewer than 85 suspects and recovered over 300 animals including N6 million cash from armed bandits terrorising the state between June and August.
The state Commissioner of Police, Usman Adamu, disclosed this when he commended and rewarded 15 officers of Operation Puff-Adder for their gallantry in the successes recorded between June and August at the Police officers mess in Minna.
According to him, among those arrested were two linked to the abduction of Magajin Garin Daura (District head of Daura), Alhaji Musa Umar, who was kidnpped on May 1st this year.
“In the period under review, two out of the eight suspects arrested by our men were linked to the kidnapping of Magajin Daura, in Katsina State and at the time he was still in captivity. A development that led to the transfer of the case to Force Headquarters, and the victim was eventually rescued unhurt.”
He revealed that operatives of the Operation Puff-Adder arrested suspected kidnappers and recovered N6 million which was one of the suspect’s share on proceeds linked to the kidnap of the son of a monarch in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The commissioner also stated that other items recovered include N39,000, undisclosed amount of foreign currencies, 290 cattle, six camels, six donkeys, one horse that had been transferred to Zamfara State.
Adams further assured that to ensure peaceful Sallah festival, the Police will be fully on ground to provide security and orderliness.
