Former presidential spokesman to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adesina, said the phrase, wailing wailers was coined for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their spokesman at the time, Olisa Metuh who were in the habit of criticizing the government on trivial grounds.

Adesina made the comment in reaction to a question about apologizing to Nigerians he christened as willing wailers when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television programme, Politics Today.

But according to Adesina, he used wailing wailers for the first time around August 2015 in describing the PDP and the party’s spokesman, Olisa Metuh whom he said were in the habit of issuing statements against the government on everything.

He said: “The government was barely three months in office and the PDP and Olisa Metuh thought that by making loud noise they could get the attention of the government. So I tweeted about that and ended by saying wailing wailers specifically for the PDP and Olisa Metuh and not for netizens,” he said.

Adesina who launched two books about his ex-boss titled, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Nigerian Legacy (2015 – 2023),’ and ‘Working with Buhari,’ also said in the interview that Buhari achieved more than he’s been given credit for, especially in the area of diversification of the economy.
