The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has asked motorists in the country not to engage in panic- buying of petroleum products, assuring them of over 2 billion litres of petrol in stock.
The Managing Director, NNPC, Dr. Mele Kyari made this known in a statement signed by the General Manager of the Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Kennie Obateru.
He explained that the over two billion litres of petrol which the organisation has in stock is enough to guarantee steady supply of the product for at least 60 days across the country.
“The disruptions or curtailment of free flow of vehicular movements occasioned by the ‘End SARS Protests’ and the attendant curfews, restrictions and vandalism, particularly in Lagos, obviously affected petroleum products movement and distribution.
“With the easing of the curfew and restriction of movement by various state governors, normalcy is expected to return to the petroleum products supply chain in the next couple of days,” Kyari said.
He further stressed that the corporation has put measures in place that would guarantee energy security for the nation towards ensuring a zero-fuel queue scenario.
Kyari also added in the statement that NNPC has more than 60-day sufficiency of petrol in its various strategic depots across Nigeria.
He, however, blamed the recent queues in some petrol outlets across the country to the disruption of the free flow of vehicular movement as a result of the curfews and restrictions of movement imposed by State governments, particularly in Lagos state.
