Nnamdi Kanu: DSS relaxes security cordon at High Court

Nnamdi Kanu in front of court

Nnamdi Kanu appears in court today at 1pm for the continuation of his trial. The DSS has so far not barricaded the premises with operatives

Ahead of the trial of the leader of  Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, the  State Security Service (SSS) has complied with the order of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court against blocking the court’s premises and environs.

Recall that Justice Binta Nyako, who fixed today’s sitting at 1:00 p.m., had ordered the SSS officers to inform their office against blocking court premises whenever Nnamdi Kanu would be in court.

According to the  News Agency of Nigeria, Justice Nyako did not specifically make an order, directing the SSS to stop the siege, but noted that a relaxed security presence would allow the business of the court not to be grounded.

A check at the court early in the morning showed that FHC staff, lawyers, litigants, journalists, among others, had free access into the high-rise and its surroundings.

According to NAN, there was free movement of people and vehicles within and outside the court premises at about 12pm.

The judge had on January 19, told the SSS not to take over the security arrangement of the court today until 12:00 p.m.

Justice Nyako had complained that other cases were affected during Mr Kanu’s trial due to heavy security presence and blockade of roads leading to the court.

She then moved the trial to 1:00 p.m. to ensure that other cases are accommodated.
