The Nnamdi Azikiwe University, also known as Unizik, in Awka, Anambra State, is in mourning mood after a 200-level student of the institution reportedly committed suicide.
The student, David Ogbonna, reportedly took his life after seeing his last semester result, according to a news blog, Instablog Naija.
The news has generated mixed reactions from Nigerians, some of them saying they had worse challenges while in school but didn’t think of suicide.
On Twitter, @ProudlyEkitiboy says: “They withdraw me from school, I didn’t commit suicide oooo.”
But @peacelawry thinks there’s more to the suicide. He said: “I’m a zikite, last semester result hasn’t come out. There’s more to his death than meets the eye , how could he hang himself in his wardrobe? … If only forensic detectives were in Nigeria.”
@st_isaiah5 advised: “These universities need to take guidance and counseling of students seriously. Academic advisors here in Africa worsen matters. Too sad he had to die.”
