Nnadozie picks ‘Woman of the Match’ award in Nigeria’s draw against Canada as Eguavon hails performance

Super Falcons goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie was awarded the ‘Woman of the Match’ prize after she was adjudged the best player in the Women’s World Cup Group B encounter between Nigeria and Canada on Friday morning.  

TheNiche had earlier reported that the Nigerian girls against all odds forced the Olympic champions to a 0-0 draw in a match played at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, Australia.  

Nnadozie, who captained the Super Falcons put up an impressive display by making a lot of spectacular saves during the game to earn her side a hard-fought point.  

The Paris FC star in the second half of the keenly contested match also denied veteran forward, Christine Sinclair, a goal from the penalty spot.

Despite finishing the game with 10 players after Deborah Abiodun was sent off in the extra time, Randy Waldrum’s side held on to what may end up being a crucial draw.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles coach, Augustine Eguavoen has applauded the Super Falcons for their heroic performance in their goalless draw against a more illustrious opponent, Canada.  

The former Nigeria defender described the stalemate against the North Americans as a solid point and went on to wish Randy Randy Waldrum’s side all the best in the rest of their group matches and the competition.   

Taking to his Twitter handle after the encounter, Eguavoen wrote: “Solid point against Canada for our Queens. All the best for the rest of the group games.”

The Super Falcons will take on co-hosts Australia, who will be without their experienced captain, in their next game on Thursday, July 27, while Canada will tackle Republic of Ireland the same day.
