NLC and TUC had prior to this, rejected Federal Government’s proposition of N48,000 as minimum wage during a meeting held last week

Nigerian workers have once again rejected Federal government offer of N58,000 as new minimum wage.
Prior to this, the Federal Government had during a meeting offered organised labour a minimum wage of N48,000, which was promptly rejected by workers under the aegis of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
During an interview on popular TV programme, ‘Politics Today’ on Tuesday, NLC president, Joe Ajaero, said labour staged a walkout during the parley because the government’s offer was “unsubstantial”.
He said: “It is still not substantial compared to what we need to make a family moving.”

However, sources in the Nigeria Labour Congress on Wednesday told Channels Television that organized labour has rejected FG’s fresh N58,000 minimum wage proposal.
The sources, however, added that labour also saw reasons for dropping their demand to N497,000 minimum wage from N615,000.
Nigerians will recall that the NLC and TUC proposed a review of minimum wage up from N30,000 to N615,000 during a tripartite meeting, citing the prevailing economic realities Nigerians were facing.
