Hon. Peter Akpatason, the member representing Akoko-Edo federal constituency in the House of Representatives, has described the crisis rocking the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, as a setback.
He is of the opinion that the fallout of the crisis would have a negative effect on the fortune of workers.
The lawmaker, an erstwhile labour leader, said: “The crisis currently rocking the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC is quite unhealthy. It has affected the unity of the workers and as we all know the strength of the labour union is its unity.
“The division in the labour union is not only detrimental to the workers but to the nation as well. When there is crisis in the labour union the employers shortchange workers and the multiplier effect is noticeable in the home-front.
“As a former labour leader myself, I tried to intervene in the crisis but my efforts did not yield the desired results. It is most unfortunate but I hope that in no distant time the warring parties will find a common ground and as much as possible ensure that workers contribute their input to the soon-to-commence national rebirth.”
On the President-Elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, Akpatason stressed that what he has going for him in the estimation of Nigerians is his integrity.
“What encouraged most of us to support General Muhammadu Buhari is his integrity. Corruption is the bane of our economy but the President-Elect has promised to confront it headlong.
He has a good pedigree and I am certain that he will be fierce in the battle against corruption.
“If he fights corruption every of our problem will be solved. He has also said that he is interested in economic diversification and solution to the problem of unemployment,“ he posited.
Hon. Akpatason promised to provide quality representation to his people while also ensuring that their welfare needs are met.
“I will be in the forefront of provision of quantitative and qualitative representation to the people. I will also come up with legislation to solve the myriad of problems confronting Nigerians,” he concluded.
