The increases in the price of fuel and electricity would not go unchallenged, says the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) after a meeting in Abuja attended by all the leaders in the 36 states of the federation.
The labour leaders said the September 28 date for a mass protest and strike would go on since the federal government failed to revert to the old price of fuel and electricity tariff.
The president of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba, said the government leaves the union with no choice other than to commence with the mass protest and strike.
He said the decision for the protest and the strike was unanimously taken by the chairmen of the 36 states and FCT chapters of the NLC.
The police have been clamping down on protesters of the fuel price hike and electricity tariff increase. Whether the protest will go or the government and the NLC could reach a compromise before the date, remains to be see.
The government could as well be embolden to retain the hike since some groups have been holding solidarity rallies in favour of the increases. Â
