Three days the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) shutdown operations of four jetties over non compliance of the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) Code ,fresh indications have emerged that two of the facilities have resumed activities.
Our checks on Thursday revealed that NIPCO and Heyden facilities located at Dockyard and Waziri jetties respectively have commenced operations.
NIMASA, it would be recalled, explained in a statement that , “In continuation of its quest to ensure total compliance with the provisions of the International Ships and Ports Facility Security (ISPS) code, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has taken stern measures against three erring facilities namely; Heyden Petroleum Jetty, Index Petroleum Oil Jetty, Waziri Jetty operated by Hemsmor Nigeria Limited, NIPCO in Lagos, while the Pinnacle Oil and Gas Petroleum, Warri, Delta State was also affected by the action.
But it was confirmed that both NIPCO and Heyden facilities were functioning as trucks were busy loading petroleum products.
A top security officer at NIPCO ,name withheld expressed shock over the information as he said there were no stoppage of activities at the facility.
The official noted though anonymously, that the facility has been up and running since on Monday .
He further expressed shock that the facility was shutdown by NIMASA.
At Heyden, a lady Secretary who refused to give out her name was surprised at the checks, insisting that the facility was never sealed.
She however advised this reporter to visit the organization ‘s corporate head office.
Another security officer at the Heyden who spoke on anonymity said that he was not around at the time the exercise was carried out but added that it did not affect the operations of the organisation.
He said, “We are working now, I was not around when they said some people came here but it did not affect our operations.
“As you can see operations are going on here. In fact, I worked yesterday until I was tired,” the Senior security officer quipped.
Meanwhile, responses from NIMASA, failed as calls put across to the head of Corporate Communications, NIMASA Mr. Isichei Osamgbi were unanswered as at filing this report.
