The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) said it has secured the convictions of 23 persons for their involvement in crimes within the Nigerian territorial waters.
The agency also disclosed that out of the 23 persons, 10 were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, 10 others bagged seven years, while 3 foreigners were fined.
According to the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the agency will not relent on efforts to ensure a safe and secure maritime domain in line with it’s mandate.
“NIMASA will continue to work closely with other organs of government, the international community, and other stakeholders to achieve improved security in the Nigerian waterways and the Gulf of Guinea.
“This will serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements who are still engaged in the nefarious activities on our waterways”, he said.
