Nigerians have taken to various social media platforms to react to Super Eagles 2-0 loss to the Eagles of Mali in an international friendly played in Marrakech, Morocco, on Tuesday night.

Mali won the intriguing encounter scoring two goals in each half through El Bilal Toure, who capitalized on Chidozie Awaziem’s blunder to put his side ahead from close range in the 18th minute and Kamory Doumbia, who sealed  the victory with an 84th-minute strike.

Nigeria had their opportunities to level the match but Moses Simon and Cyriel Dessers could not convert their chances.

The defeat means interim coach, George Finidi, who defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1 in his first game on Friday, has now lost his first game in charge of the Nigerian team.

Following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Mali, some Nigerians took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts.

Former Nigerian international, Mutiu Adepoju, wrote: “Not the best result. But friendlies are an opportunity to test and tinker.”

Kelechi Anyikude, of Arsenal Fans TV (AFTV) tweeted: “It is what it is. We learn and move

While a former press officer of the Super Eagles, Colin Udoh, added: “Not a good result for the Super Eagles, who were undone by a combination of defensive errors and poor finishing.”

Despite these views, there were some Nigerian fans who criticized some of the players and questioned Finidi’s technical depth, wondering if he is truly the man for the job.

However, prior to the friendly match, a popular sports analyst, Femi Fabunmi, had told Legit.ng that interim manager, Finidi, is “the best bet” for the Super Eagles head coach position.
