A hashtag #BringbackGEJ has surfaced on the social media. A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani Kayode, is the chief promoter of the post on social media.
The hashtag is a sequel to media report linking former President Goodluck Jonathan to a move for the presidency in 2023.
Three Nigerian newspapers have claimed to have received high profile information that northern leaders in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are rooting for Jonathan’s presidency in 2023 because his tenure would only last for four years, paving the way for a northerner to mount the saddle in 2027.
Fani-Kayode, who was the director of media and publicity for the Jonathan presidential campaign in 2015, then started the hashtag of #BringBackGEJ, a move some say is like testing the waters before flying the kite.
But Nigerians responded swiftly by rejecting the idea.
@cicontop said: “Boooooom… Everyone is feeling the heat now. Thank God ooo.. But, the biggest mistake he (Jonathan) will make is accepting the call to run for the presidency again. He should just remain an elder statesman and dish out advice.”
@Stillbroklynn said: “As a staunch sympathizer of the PDP, this is beyond being partisan. I honestly don’t support this movement. This country is in dire need of a credible leader with vision and the will power to rescue what’s left of this country.”
@Slaughtersus also said: “Even as I preferred Jonathan to Buhari, youths are the future leaders they say. When is it going to be? Why recycling old cargoes when we have able young people?”
@AdamsSplendor said: “If you (Fani-Kayode) have any value or regards left for GEJ you won’t think of suggesting such. Or was this part of what the Fulani title all about?”
@Obyno241 also said: “What difference would he make with this messed up system? Without redefining our co- habitation, this country is heading for the rocks. Besides, the Fulanis don’t want to hear about restructuring because of their conquest mindset, meaning Nigeria is heading towards disintegration.”
