Even when former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, dished out a piece of false information that the Permanent Voters Card (PVC) has expired, his audience cheered him with a thunderous yes.

The P in the PVC stands for permanent, implying that it is for life. But Tinubu, in a slurred voice while addressing his campaign team, urged them to knock at doors of Nigerians to notify them that their PVCs have expired.

But the shocker for Nigerians was the gesture of the audience who showed approval that the PVC has really expired.

Tinubu had said: “Take one family member, two family members, knock on all doors and make sure that they do the new registration…. because they may not announce to you that the PVC has expired.” At this point, the audience cheered with an emphatic ‘yes.’  Others added: ‘Yes, it has expired.’

Tinubu fired on: “You need to spread it round in various local government and wards no matter how difficult it is. To me, I look at it closely, and when you look at other elections being held, you see that it is diminishing because those cards have expired.”

Although Tinubu’s media aides have tried to spin the story by arguing that he mistakenly used the word expired, they have failed to convince many. Nigerians also wondered why the audience cheered the Jagaban when he was wrong.

After sharing the video on Twitter, former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, tweeting with @ChidiOdinkalu said: ….Just listen to the chorus of “Yes” & #Amen in affirmation of evident #BS….”

@ose_anenih also said: “In this video, one starts to see how power works; and how it fades. Tinubu is wrong: your PVC does NOT expire. In fact, double registration is illegal. His people are unable to correct their Oga, but look at their body language: they are all aware his mental acuity is diminishing.”

@MalachyOdo1 added: “When Tinubu said what he said about the PVCs, who else noticed how everyone there gasped as if he just revealed when Jesus will come again? No one corrects a Nigerian big man.”

@HAHayatu asked: “Are you surprised with Tinubus gaffe on PVC expiry when you remember this same Tinubu once said he will recruit 50Million youths into the army. Obviously, something is wrong probably dementia.”
