Operatives of the Uyo zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), have arrested 22 suspected internet fraudsters at different locations in Imo state.
According to a tweet by the EFCC handle, no reason was given for their arrest except for being suspected internet fraudsters, also known as Yahoo Boys.
The EFCC said all the suspects were male whose ages range between 20 and 41. They were all pictured carrying laptops while backing the camera.
The statement said they were nabbed recently at “Sight and Services” within “World Bank”, in Ugwuma town and “Road Safety” by Toronto road, Egbu, Owerri, Imo state.
Nigerians reacted to the arrest by making varying pokes at the EFCC.
@tweet_2henro asked the EFCC: “Why do you people show some faces and don’t show others? Please do well to protect their identity after all they are only a suspect.”
A curious tweet from @Tbalze92 queried: “Why no internet fraud in the north. Abi no internet connection or their connection pass EFCC?”
@OlajideRalph argued: “How come the politicians have not all been arrested. I’m not advocating anything, but I’m saying we all know the root cause of Nigeria’s problems are not these individuals. Solution is arrest lawmakers and embezzlers. Lawmakers are enablers of embezzlement.”
