Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, was the butt of social media jokes, on Monday, February 10, when he suggested that the NTA could compete with the CNN if $500 million (N180 billion) was injected into it.
Mohammed had appeared before the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Loans to defend the $500m loan his ministry had applied from President Muhammadu Buhari’s $29.96 billion foreign loan to fund critical infrastructure.
For some Nigerians, this was a joke taken too far.
A tweet from @ayemojubar reads: “Lai Mohammed requested $500m loan to transform Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) to Cable News Network (CNN)? Nigerians, put Lai Mohammed in your prayers!”
@DoubleEph, quipped; “It is with a heavy heart that I have to inform you that Lai Mohammed is at it again.”
@anaga_banner, said: “The moment I saw Lai Mohammed trending, I knew he must have dropped another Punch Line.”
@emperorzola, also said: “When I saw Lai Mohammed trending. My mind: What lie has he said this time?”
