The decision to question the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has angered Nigerians who see something suspicious in the decision.

They ask why the government decided to question Atiku now that he has visited the United States of America, where he was barred from going over 12 years.

Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced the decision to question the former Vice President today during a chat with State House reporters in Abuja.

A critic of the government and aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, asked why the government decided to question Atiku now that he has visited the U.S.

All of a sudden, Lie Mohammed just remembered that the @MBuhari administration had to question @atiku.

Hmm! somebody has caught American Fever because of #AtikuInAmerica. They should face their “Gubernatorial” candidate and leave Atiku alone,” Omokri said on Twitter.

EndSars campaigner and activist, Segun Awosanya called the move irresponsible.

This must be the most irresponsible FG act yet in the history of our democracy. We will never allow tyranny to take root in our polity. Whatever Alhaji Lai Mohammed is high on can’t be Legal,” Awosanya said.

Atiku Abubakar flew into Washington DC on Thursday and is scheduled to hold series of meetings with American and Nigerian business communities.

His visit has ruffled the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which had harped on Atiku’s inability to enter the U.S. which they are because he is corrupt.
