Nigerians are reacting angrily at the comment made by Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) concerning the ongoing Big Brother Nigeria (BBNaija).

The Muslim group asked Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the show because it promotes immorality.

A statement by its Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, said the show is ‘immoral, dangerous and bohemian’ and also wondered why the Ministry of Information and Culture, and the National Orientation Agency are doing nothing over the show.

Nigerians condemned the group’s statement, saying that the reality show is not in open and terrestrial but on pay television.

They asked the group to focus more on serious issues like child marriage, insurgency, kidnappings and banditry ravaging parts of the country.

MURIC is known to be very vocal against things they see as anti-Islam.

In 2018, Nigerian musician, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, released a music video, This is Nigeria, in which he criticized government inaction over the ills bedeviling Nigeria.

MURIC asked that the video be banned by the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) because it featured women putting on hijab.

The music was taken off air by the NBC.
