Nigerians have rejected the call by ace actor and member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Eliot, for the ban on foreign movies in Nigeria.

Eliot has said in an interview on Hip TV that the federal government should consider banning foreign movies to enable Nollywood grow.

“You ban all foreign content, make it difficult for all foreign content to come in, so your local content can grow,”he said.

The Nigerians who disapprove with Eliot said he was simply lazy in thoughts.

“Hon Desmond Elliot would have made more sense advocating for strengthening copyright laws rather than proposing a ban on foreign movies. But what do I know when I no be Nigerian ‘honourable’ “, @GbemiDennis said.

“Desmond Elliot should know that competition is good and healthy for Nollywood industry to grow. You don’t compare the consumption of agricultural produce and creative industries like movie making. Wetin now”,@iLongJohn said.

“How can you ask the Nigerian government to ban foreign movies? Should other countries ban our music and movies? Desmond Elliot should have asked that they support our movie industry so that we can get up to the standard the foreign movies are at cos we need to step up our game”, @Noblestrategyy said.

“So, as young as Desmond Elliot is, this is what he can come up with as a solution to help Nollywood grow. He did not ask for a film village to be built, did not ask for funding o! He wants foreign movies banned. This country is in SERIOUS TROUBLE”, @Baybie8 said.

“Desmond Elliot suggestion of a ban on foreign movies in our cinemas is quite a lazy one. Nigerians don’t go to see local movies cos most times, they’re either lacking in content or quality or both! Improve on these things see how we’ll flood the cinemas in search of local movies”, @ChidubemNJ said.
