A number of Nigerians are excited that Twitter Chief Executive Officer, Jack Dorcey, deleted President Muhammadu Buhari’s tweet which appears to be justifying the destruction of the South East during the Civil War, and using it to threaten secessionist agitators from the region.

Buhari tweeted that: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War. Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,”

Many have described the tweet as genocidal. They also reported it to Twitter which responded by removing it.

@henryshield says: “Thank you @jack and @Twitter for taking down that provocative tweet from Buhari.”

@renoomokri said: “I commend @Twitter for deleting @MBuhari’s tweet threatening Civil War on Nigeria’s SE. It was a most irresponsible tweet and Nigerians are grateful to @Jack for taking that action. But please do not stop there. Delete his account. Buhari is a menace to the world.”

@DrOlufunmilayo tweeted: “Imagine if twitter opened office in Nigeria and Jack deleted that clear violent tweet. By tonight, unknown gunmen and unidentified thugs will have shown up in Twitter office Ikoyi to burn it. And this mad govt will say they don’t know about it. Awon eleribu.”

@Official_A_Ike argued: @jack you didn’t just delete #Trump‘s tweets for going against twitter rules, you deleted Trump completely.I hope you have seen @MBuhari‘s genocidal threat, such is more harmful than what Trump tweeted that got his account banned. Do the justice by applying same to @MBuhari.”
